PINECREST, Calif. -- Two Sonora men were arrested early Thursday after they allegedly attacked and injured a Roseville man at a campground at Pinecrest Lake in Tuolumne County, police said.

Aaron Christopher Sheridan, 23, was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery and a parole violation, sheriff's Lt. Dan Bressler said.

Cody Shago Mata, 18, was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery.

Both men were taken to jail.

Bressler said Sheridan, Mata and others allegedly came to the man's campsite at about 2 a.m. and assaulted him in front of his family.

The man, whose name was not released, suffered moderate to serious injuries to his face and head, Bressler added.

Deputies responded and took Sheridan and Mata into custody.

Bressler said more arrests are expected as the investigation continued.
