Part of Highway 99 was shut down for a short time in Elk Grove early Tuesday after a truck crashed and knocked down some power lines.

The California Highway Patrol said a southbound Toyota Tacoma exited the highway at Sheldon Road but failed to negotiate a turn just after 3 a.m.

The truck hit a utility pole, which was sheared off. Three 12,000-volt power lines dropped on the freeway.

Utility workers responded and pulled the lines off the road. Power was knocked out for a short time.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
