State Of Emergency Declared In Butte County
6,000 Acres Burned In Chico-Area Fire

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Butte County on Wednesday due to the Ophir and Humboldt wildfires, officials said.“We are aggressively battling the Ophir and Humboldt Fires, and I thank the hardworking firefighters for their efforts." Schwarzenegger said. "We are mobilizing and coordinating all of the resources necessary to fight these fires.”The governor directed additional resources to Butte County earlier Wednesday to fight wildfires through Cal Fire and the Office of Emergency Services, including the authorization of DC-10 and DC-7 aircrafts.
6,000 Acres Scorched In Humboldt Blaze
Around 700 to 1,000 people were forced to evacuate from the Stillson Canyon area on Wednesday because of the Humboldt blaze, Cal Fire said.Evacuations are also in place for all of Honey Run Road, Pam Court and Zinfandel Road.About 100 firefighters are working to extinguish the 6,000-acre blaze, which began around noon in the Stillson Canyon along Highway 32 and Humboldt Road near Chico.An estimated 250 structures are threatned but none have been burned. The fire was about 10 percent contained as of 9:45 p.m.Honey Run Road has been closed to traffic and spot fires were reported along the Skyway.North Winds Aid Fires In North State
Much of Northern California was on high alert for fires Wednesday after wind-fed blazes on Tuesday destroyed or damaged several dozen homes and other structures and scorched thousands of acres.Besides Chico, firefighters fought blazes in Vacaville, Placer County and Fairfield on Wednesday.A house and three cars were destroyed Wednesday by a grass fire near Vacaville. All 10 residents of the home escaped safely. (More information here.)In Fairfield, a six-alarm vegetation fire burned east of the Travis Air Force Base, near Creed and Meridian roads.
