PLACERVILLE, Calif. -- Five llamas and 14 sheep that were rescued from a Somerset ranch for severe neglect are up for adoption, El Dorado County Animal Control said.Large animals are usually adopted through a bid process, kennel supervisor Tonya Ruffner said.People who are interested in adopting the llamas must fill out a livestock bid form, which is available at the animal control shelter at 511 Placerville Drive in Placerville. There is no bidding process for the sheep, but they are $40 to adopt."The adoption does not automatically go to the highest bidder," Ruffner said. "We also must insure that the adoption is a good fit for everyone. For example, we check to make sure the new home has adequate fencing, and shelter, and has no prior violations of county ordinances or state laws."The horses, cow and other animals that were taken to the Grace Foundation will be up for adoption when they are in better health.Anyone with questions should call the animal control business office at 530-621-5795.
