TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. -- People were ordered to evacuate in Cold Springs after a wildfire broke out and destroyed one home. There are 50 to 60 structures in the area that are threatened, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. The fire is burning in the 29000 block of Kerns Drive.Eight engines, six fire crews and two helicopters were sent to the scene.Nancy Longmore with Calfire said fire crews were able to reduce the blaze from about 20 to 30 acres to five to 10 acres, and have slowed the fire's spread.Longmore said many of the structures are cabins, and not all of them are permanent residences. Some power lines are down in the area, Longmore said. It's unknown how the fire started, how many people were evacuated or if any other structures were destroyed. The American Red Cross has established an evacuation center at Black Oak Elementary School in Twain Harte, Longmore said.
