SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Three people accused of ripping off more than $1 million from the Sacramento Public Library appeared in Superior Court on Wednesday.The district attorney's office alleges that the library was overbilled for maintenance work by as much as 300 percent. No pleas were entered during the arraignment.James Mayle, formerly the library security director, has been charged with grand theft, offering a bribe to a public official and conflict of interest by a government employee.Mayle's wife, Janie Rankins-Mayle, is charged with grand theft and offering a bribe to a public official.Dennis Nilsson, formerly the library facility superintendent and maintenance director, is accused of grand theft, bribery of a public official and conflict of interest by a government employee.Investigators claim Mayle and Rankins-Mayle paid Nilsson $90,000 to look the other way.
