Project Healthy Kids Tips for Parents
Parents are the most important influence in children's lives. Children watch and
imitate adults, and look to them to learn proper behavior. Just as children pick up
positive habits like saying please and thank you, they can also pick up attitudes
about food.
Parents need to monitor their own behavior so that their children acquire healthy attitudes about eating and exercise. Here are a few good habits to model for your children:

Parents need to monitor their own behavior so that their children acquire healthy attitudes about eating and exercise. Here are a few good habits to model for your children:
- Offer your children foods during the day that will help them meet the recommended number of servings from each of the food pyramid groups
- Never skip meals - especially breakfast
- Take moderate portions of food
- Try new foods, but don't force your children to try them
- Limit junk food in the house
- Drink water and milk instead of soda
- Learn strategies for managing stress that do not include eating
- Eat fruit for dessert
- Include vegetables and fruits with meals and snacks
- Eat sweets and fatty foods in moderation
- Get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day
