Project Healthy Kids Overview

Obesity is the single most widespread health problem facing our children and has
become the focus of national attention. The number of overweight children in the
U.S. has tripled to nearly 1 in every 3 in the last twenty years, and there are more
obese children in Sacramento County than in nearly any other California county.

Childhood obesity that is ignored can lead to serious health problems for children,
including Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, asthma, orthopedic
difficulties and even mental health problems.

Project Healthy Kids is a multi-media campaign designed to give kids positive
messages about being healthy, to educate parents about the signs, causes and
consequences of childhood obesity, and to give parents the tools they need to
help their children become Healthy Kids. The campaign is based on a partnership
between My58, Save Mart, HealthNet, and a host of other health-conscious businesses.
