Professor Wrestling: LetterMania
Pick The Winners, Part Two
POSTED: 7:38 pm PST March 23,
2006
Listen up!Class is in session. This week, a big THANKS to those who entered this year's "WrestleMania 22" contest. I've been buried with e-mail from students who think they know what'll happen at the big show.As I mentioned last week, the contest calls on you to pick the winners and the finishes of the big matches in Chicago on April 2. The students who get the most right (there will be ties) are then entered into a drawing for the big prize -- a WWE DVD of my choice, plus some other junk I can fit into a padded mailer. This card is subject to change, so I'm going to go with the matches listed below. Again: MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE FINISH. That'll be the tiebreaker. It's not enough just to say, "HHH will pin Cena." You also have to include how he did it. Also, please include your mailing address. Here's the card:Hardcore Match: Edge vs. Mick Foley
Casket Match: Undertaker vs. Mark Henry
Challenge Match: Vincent K. McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels
Money In The Bank Match:Shelton Benjamin vs. Ric Flair vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Finley vs. Matt Hardy vs. TBA
U.S. Title Match: Chris Benoit vs. John Bradshaw Layfield
WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Chris Masters and Carlito vs. Big Show and Kane
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Kurt Angle (c) vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton
WWE World Heavyweight Title Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. John Cena
For the record, here are some of the best entries to come my way. For starters, Darrick Nuske gives his two cents on the "Money In The Bank" match:RVD wins this easily by pinning TBA wrestler and goes on to cash it in at the ECW PPV and wins the WWE title over Triple H at the ECW PPV.Joe Morris is picking Rey Mysterio in the big three-way for the World Heavyweight Championship:Kurt Angle is my favorite, but Rey Mysterio is probably the dark horse. I believe that Rey will probably get sidelined early, but in the end he will win the match. Kurt Angle and Randy Orton will end up beating each other senseless and Rey will wake up and smell the coffee just in time to take out an exhausted Kurt Angle with a flying body slam from across the ring.Chris Rowland and Gary Stoddard teamed up for these finishes for the MITB match, and the HHH-Cena clash:Money In The Bank Match: Flair wins by using what I call the "Luger Tactic". At a Battle Royal many years ago, Lex Luger basically hung out in the corner for the entire match, avoiding most of the action, and then slipped quickly up on the final two contestants and pushed them over the top rope. While this isn't a Battle Royal, I believe Flair can get a credible win here by employing a similar stategy. This win will also set up the HUGE SURPRISE of the night.HHH vs. John Cena: In the end, HHH will get the win via use of some foreign object. As soon as HHH's hand is raised and the WWE title is handed to him, the trademark "Wooo" followed by the beginning of "2001" blares over the loudspeaker and The Nature Boy, who barely broke a sweat in his bid to obtain the MITB briefcase, comes through the crowd, into the ring, and nails the newly crowned champ with said briefcase and tells the ref he is cashing in his contract right now. The bell sounds and with an already worn out HHH laying in a pool of blood courtesy of the shot to the head from Flair's briefcase. Naitch pins Trips for his final heavyweight championship. Woooooooooooo!!!!Love it! In fact, I love it so much that I'll also print a similar finish, dreamed up by the super-sharp Leonard Baucom: Backstage rumors say that HHH pushed to have Cena take the title back from Edge, just so he could face him at WM. HHH has stayed out of the title scene for a full year, after losing it to Batista at last year's WM. With Flair winning the money in the bank match, look for HHH to be his opponent soon.Result: HHH wins, after a pedigree in the center of the ring. Now for my real dream WM ending: With Flair having won the MIB match earlier in the evening, he hits the ring, cashing in his title shot and makes HHH submit to the figure four to take the world title back for one last ride on space mountain! Now THAT'S a Wrestlemania moment for the ages!!!!From Kent Barker, a couple of doozy finishes:McMahon/Michaels: I hate Shawn Michaels, but I think he'll get the win. Now here's the kicker PW: no doubt there'll be interference from the boy wonder Shane-O-Mac, but I think we'll also see some payback for the Canada screwjob courtesy of the Hitman Bret Hart. Michaels gets the dupe with a little help from Bret Hart. Could we be in the makings of a Bret Hart comeback?????Angle/Mysterio/Orton: What you've gotta ask yourself here is where is the money for WWE? Angle? Orton? I doubt it. Even though I despise his ongoing, "Cheer for me, I'm the tiny goody-goody underdog" persona, I think Mysterio will get the clean pin here so we can all have yet another tearjerker tribute to Eddie moment to commemorate his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Latino Heat was a great wrestler, but stop using his death to sell tickets Vince. It's beneath you. Plus the good guys always seem to come out on top at Mania don't they? They certainly do. OK, that's it. The contest is on. Enter if you dare. How do you do it? How do you enter? By e-mailing me right here. It's that simple. Remember: Winners, finishes, and your mailing address. That's all I need. Good luck! Now scram! Class dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting. He picked Duke, Kansas and Ohio State to be in the Final Four. What a bonehead.)
