SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A teenage girl reported being sexually assaulted at Glen Hall Park in Sacramento, police said. The 17-year-old told officers that the attack took place in a park bathroom at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Matt Young said. The park is located just off Sandburg Drive in the River Park neighborhood.Police said the girl was walking near the park when the man approached her from behind and forced her to go into the women's restroom. The man then fled on foot after the incident, the girl told police. The alleged attacker was described as a white man in his mid-40s and about 160 to 170 pounds. He had medium-length brown hair and a full salt-and-pepper beard. He was wearing a gray shirt with writing on the front, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. The man spoke with a raspy voice and a Southern accent. His appearance was dirty and he may have been a transient, police said. Young said the girl did not know the man."Physical assaults here are very rare here in River Park, happily," Jeff Harris from the River Park Neighborhood Association said. "And that's the reason why we have this neighborhood watch program -- it's just, try to keep it that way."Anyone with information may call Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP or a police detective at 916-808-0575. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
