WASHINGTON -- Barbara Walters is refusing to debate Star Jones, who accused her of revealing her affair with former U.S. Senator Edward Brooke just to sell copies of her autobiography.

Walters told AP Radio that Jones is having enough trouble as it is without her piling on.

Walters said that Jones "is going through a difficult time now" and she doesn't want to "add to her difficulties."

Jones is currently going through a divorce and is in between jobs.

Jones lashed out at Walters after she wrote in her book "Audition" that the women of "The View" had to "lie" for Jones because she refused to admit she had her stomach stapled.

The television talker preferred to say she lost weight by eating less and doing Pilates.

Walters said that she'll stick to her "happy memories of how wonderful" Jones was on "The View."
